Helen Keller: Author, Lecturer, Political Activist Essay -- Biography,

Helen Keller is one of the most inspirational people in American history. She had to overcome physical disabilities and umteen other obstacles to live the life that she did. Keller was born on June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Her parents, Arthur Keller and Kate Adams, both served for the Confederates in the Civil War (Thompson, 2003). Like most parents, they were ecstatic when Keller was born. At 18 months old, she was a happy, healthy baby already learning to say her first few words. However, one morning, she woke up with an extremely high fever and had to go to the hospital. The indemnify told her parents she had a serious illness know as acute congestion of the stomach and brain. This illness caused her to lose her sight and hearing for the rest of her life (Wilkie, 1969). She was ineffective to communicate with anyone and was shut off from the entire world.For years, Keller would just hang on to her mothers skirt to get around and feel of peoples hands to try to f ind out what they were doing. She learned to do quite a few things this way including milk a cow and knead the colewort bread. She learned to recognize people by feeling their face and clothes. The family knew they had to do something to help the child, so they began looking for a teacher. In March of 1886, 21 year old Anne Sullivan arrived at the Kellers house she immediately began teaching Keller how to communicate by spelling letters into her hand. In addition, Communism attempted to rewrite history, but the society in Brave New World took the next step and forgot about history alto hastenher. The all people who had access to any knowledge of the past were the ones who had the power the World Controllers. Thus, they were able to create a stable society. Since the hypnopaedic motifs in the society were continuously restate throughout ones lifetime, mandatory attendance to community gath erings, such as the Solidarity Service, were strictly enforced. The main purpose of the Solidarity Service was to promote social stability. The people were driven to this idea by singing songs like the First Solidarity Hymn, which began, Ford, we are twelve oh, make us one (page ).  During this time, people were also consuming soma rations, which drugged them and caused them to get swept up in the service. Amadou Diallos shooting was very upsetting for the African-American community. The Choices We Make

Poverty in the United States today has many mettles. Theres the pleading face of a middle-aged man on a city street holding up a sign that says Hungry, Need Help. Theres the loathsome face of a young chela in a schoolroom somewhere, whose only real meal today will be a free school lunch. Theres the sad face of a single mother who doesnt take aim enough money to buy clothes for her children. And in that locations the frustrated face of a young man working at a minimum-wage job who cant afford to pay his rent. The sad thing is everyone knows somebody like this. What ar these people to do?What lengths should they go to be happy? Many times a persons virtue is ch entirelyenged. Especi eithery when they ar forced to choose between a canonical human need or a particular ethical indiscretion. So the question is What effects do poverty and the absence of opportunity shake off on individuals senses of virtue? For one, a person who is poor whitethorn choose to steal to obtain a ba sic need such as food, shelter, or safety. Second, a person religion may be challenged when poor or in an extreme circumstance that may require a choice between fol showtimeing their substance of believing or living.And concludingly, p arnt may do things and ramp up sacrifices to make sure that their children ar safe and cared for. Society looks upon people who commit crimes as bad seeds in a community. But, has anyone ever really looked at the person and wondered what could make this individual so desperate that they would risk everything to steal $50 bucks out of a cash register, or a loaf of bread from a quick stop. Dont get me wrong. Not everyone that steals has a wide reason, nor is it right. But if you looked deep into the life of the individual, do you see them? Really see them.Most of the time these people are poor, come from broken homes and sometimes do what they have to too survive. They live in poverty stricken ghettos or in poor communities that have no resources to help them. What are they to do? Ask yourself Would you steal to feed yourself or your family? It happens every day in every city. Most of these people have low paying jobs and struggle to make finiss meet. They do what they can and ask for help just to be criminaled away. Where is the problem? Is it the person themselves? No Its the conjunction around them. People do what they must to survive no matter what.Its a basic instinct that kicks in and takes over. Religion (even if primitive) is generally assumed to be in some sense moral. (Murdoch 740) People often take religion out of context and use it for their own good or the good of a specific cause. Some examples are Hitler and the Holocaust, or abortion. Hitler used god as a weapon wipe out the Jews. People that are for or against abortion and the laws surrounding it look to it as a moral and ethical dilemma. allows for a moment touch on this one Lets say that you are a pregnant teenager that had been brutally raped.You have a choice keep the baby, and the memory of the terrible act or abort the fetus. The trouble is your religion is in the way. What are you to do? This is where religion gets in the way of many dilemmas for people today. They have to make a choice. Keep it or dont. For some the choice may come easy depending on how potently you feel about your particular morality or virtue.Many people say God never gives us more than we can handle. Is this true? Would you be able to handle this type of situation? Again that depends on the individual and their state of mind. In the end it all comes down to what they think and what the consequences of their action may be. They idea will be different for everyone, no matter what the circumstance. We cannot judge a persons views if we do not understand them. The third and final question is How far would a parent go to keep their children safe and healthy? Many parents would say I would give my life to keep my child safe. This is not a fact that is being argued.What is being argued is if the parent would risk their ethical stand to protect a child. Parents today work so hard to make sure that their children have food and clothing and shelter. But what about the parents who do all of this and in time are unable to append for their families? What are the choices for them? They may steal, lie, cheat and sacrifice their own happiness to provide the same happiness to their families. Is this something that society should look upon in disgust? Or should society take a stand and help? For many years I have helped in an organization that does just this.We provide clothing food and gifts to underprivileged children every year at Christmas time to make sure that all are happy and joyous like all the other children whose parents can provide. Is this unfair to the happy child who has everythi ng? One can argue that poor people deserve more, but in reality all parent rich or poor would do anything to ensure that their children are cared for no matter what the cost or consequence may be. Duty may be easily performed without strain or reflection but may also prompt the well known experience of the frustration of desire unneurotic with a sense of necessity to act (Murdoch 734)Each human has the free will and the right to choose the course of their own actions. When an individual takes responsibility for their conduct, they are ultimately acting as a rational being. Realizing that they have the ability to freely choose their actions and that no one else can force them to do something. With the freedom of choice also comes the responsibility for that decision. When an individual takes responsibility she has reached their highest state of reasoning she has realized that not only is she free to make decisions, but also that their decisions have outcomes.By applying their free will, they are ultimately saying, I choose to take this action, and I choose take responsibility for the consequence. Morals depend on humanity exercising their freedom of choice and acknowledging that their choices have significance. Reason allows us not to just behave instinctively or randomly, but to realize that our actions will have an outcome and to act accordingly to the end we wish to achieve. When an individual knows the result of their actions and willingly chooses to carry that behavior out, the individual freely accepts the consequences and thus takes responsibility for that end result.With all that being said, a person who is poor or pushed to a make a decision may or may not turn to religion and ethics. People are like robots and are programmed from childhood to believe or act in certain ways. They are sometimes torn by the morality of a decision and the virtues in which they believe. These choices are not easy and are not always the right ones but we are humans and we make mistakes. This is how we learn to survive and make things better for the next era. We can only take it one step at a time.

Generation X

It is natural for every society to create a permanent offend between emotional truth and logical truth. Young people tend to convey the values and opinions they learnt from their parents, friends, in school and do non want develop their birth or test these opinions on the logic truth. Children natur completelyy develop respect for the beliefs, customs, institutions and role models of their society. One has always to deal with objective and unverifiable. These two are attached so that wholeness can not often divide them.It often happens so, that what we thought was subjective is concurred with what is accepted as objective and vice versa. But one thing is definitely true We let the objective world through our perception and it draws subjective. This perception is not always correct neither our perception of the world, nor of different people. Moreover we often have to deal with the wrong perception of us, ourselves, by other people. There is a group of people in our society rough which we all have a definitive opinion and we think that it is the most correct one..A very significant phenomenon caused by the objective reality is questionable extension X, a term coming from a 1991 novel by Douglas Coupland Generation X Tales for an Accelerated Culture. Xers were born between the years of 1965 and 1980 and have a unique outlook on the world and it is believed that this group is actually formed by people born in that meter. But having conducted a great issuance of researches and surveys one has concluded this generation was more likely to be defined not as a chronological but a way of looking at the world.There are three defining experiences that have influenced all aspects of Xers personalities and behaviors the divorce rate (which has tripled since 1960) the number of children born out of wedlock (which has increased 28 portion since 1960) and the number of absent fathers (which has also increased. ). Generation X has been left in a state of inst ability because of social problems such as high offence rates, divorce, children born out of wedlock, and lack of fathers in many families. Some researchers say that Xers accept these problems as facts of life, which actually has inspired them to seek stability in all aspects of their lives.They rule responsible for creating and maintaining a more stable environment. They have grown up in a world that is cynical toward leaders, and those leaders have con firmly this cynicism by cheating, stealing and lying. These are the objective reasons of forming of this way of world perception. The society has formed its own opinion about this generation and this opinion has already become an objective way of perception of Xers. Media have done its task and named a whole generation after a piece of fiction or a punk band depending on who you ask. We read about Xers in newspapers, see them in commercials.And that happened just because television and media love to group people in so-called targ et market. X usually means something unknown. May be one just could not find an appropriate name for this generation and there was elect this X which like stamp put a negative tint on this term. The society seems to know everything, every single negative characteristic of this generation. alternatively than evoking sympathy, members of Generation X have become a symbol of a society in decline. They are labeled slackers, whiners, the image is of a tuned-out individual, dressed in grunge, not doing a whole lot.When we see a commercial for a household product there is always an advertised product and an X-one. This sign X is always downcast quality and not as effective as the better advertised product. And so are Xers in our society low quality and worse that others. The top four Xers activities are thought to be 1. Sitting around experiencing Angst, and brooding about how limited their life prospects are 2. plain about how long old people are working these days before they retire 3. Raging about how difficult it is to get a in reality good Cappuccino for a decent price and 4.Bemoaning the fact that there are so few CEO positions available to very talented people without any experience. People believe that Xers are cynical, hopeless, frustrated and unmotivated slackers who listen to alternative music and still live at home because they cannot get real jobs. present are the common characteristics of Xers seeking stability, balance embracing the look out for yourself attitude working, with one-foot-out-the-door attitude displaying political ambivalence accepting diversity (sexual, racial) standing firm on an unwillingness to compromise home and family life expressing conservatism projecting cynicism holding on to tradition expecting sophisticated visuals. Unfortunately these characteristics are perceived by the society as negative ones. We do not seem to realize that the time was different when this generation, this outlook was formed. The initial ob jective conditions were quite different. It is different time now and so the generation. Of course there will always be Xers in society but these will be people brought by the ideas and subjective X-perception of the world of the real Xers.This is what Xers say themselves Three areas in which Xers are seeking answers are ecology, community, and spirituality. Alongside this seeking is a profound rejection of the answers offered by the prevailing philosophic and cultural paradigms. Xers perceive that the current economic order is destroying the planet, that individualistic society has created the paradox of people being alone in a multitude, and that the Church has given(p) people a rational religion which in many cases rejects the supernatural.In response and reaction to this, the values of Xers lean towards environmental holism, relational integrity and spiritual experience. some other important point is the attitude of Xers towards institutional authority which is irrelevance. O rganizations are part of the system which itself is generally perceived as negative and destructive. After all, the system has produced the bionomical crisis, unemployment, racism and fragmented families a world that holds little future for Xers.Institutions are perceived as interested in Xers only for their economic value, base their subroutine purely on reason, and enforce conformity all of which Xers instinctively react against. Though the power of such authorities, such as the police, may be recognise they are generally avoided. One thinks that Xers do not have a future, that they will just exist and will always remain the same no progress, no future. The characters they have will not do anything good neither for the society nor for themselves.I believe that most Xers are strongly independent, hard-working, creative. I do not agree that Xers are slackers. They just see the poverty, homelessness and they work really hard in order not to have those in their lives. But they al so accept there must a leisure time spent with family, friends. People say that Xers do not care about their lives or future, that thus they do not have any future. But exactly this generation is more concerned about the future that any previous one. The Xers are even more concerned with the future of the world, of our environment, earth.They are more socially, economically and environmentally conscious. They also take care of their health. They care about their future and live with the following saying exercise, the environment, healthy body and mind. Some people believe that Xers just love to hang around drinking coffee and smoking. Xers justify themselves saying that they can feel a difference work and leisure. It is true that these people differ but the human nature is so, that we think that what is different is always wrong negative. We do not want to accept this generation. It will always be X.

Most of these water sources are being used for drinking water purposes. So CPCB itself or through State Pollution Control Boards is having a watch on raw water quality. Ministry of Health So far the Ministry had been playing a limited role with regard to drinking water surveillance in some selected areas. But with the inclusion of drinking water under food category, MoH will be playing a significant role. Also Indian government enforced National water policy in 2002 and water pollution act( prevention and control) 1975 for maintaining water quantity and quality. CONCLUSIONS It takes the cooperation and the education of everyone to help clean up our biggest drinking water threats.The more environmentally friendly everyone becomes, the closer we get to finding pristine drinking water and protecting our natural environment. Industrial and personal responsibility for our environment is the first and most significant step toward clean drinking water in the country in every community. According to a 2007 World Health Organization report, 1. 1 billion people lack access to an improved drinking water supply, 88% of the 4 billion annual cases of diarrhea disease are attributed to unsafe water and inadequate sanitation and hygiene, and 1. million people die from diarrhoeic diseases each year. The WHO estimates that 94% of these diarrheal cases are preventable through modifications to the environment, including access to safe water. Simple techniques for treating water at home, such as chlorination, filters, and solar disinfection, and storing it in safe containers could save a huge number of lives each year. Reducing deaths from mobile diseases is a major public health goal in developing countries.
